HELP MT SUPPORT AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY!
WHAT IS YOUR ORGANIZATION'S MISSION?
Per their website: "The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Our Global Headquarters are located in Atlanta, Georgia, and we have regional and local offices throughout the country to ensure we have a presence in every community. Learn more about who we are, what we do, and our plans for the future by exploring the areas below."
WHY IS THIS ORGANIZATION SO IMPORTANT TO YOU?
I have had many people in my life impacted by cancer, including my Dad who is a two-time survivor of prostate cancer. In 2018, I lost a dear pageant friend to a rare form of kidney cancer. Watching someone who was a few years younger than me, with two young children, battle with this disease left me feeling hopeless in many ways. Alongside Austin Ryde, Ashley Rene's, and others in the pageant community, we were able to fundraise over $11,000 towards her medical bills. This fundraiser was a demonstration of the power of pageantry when it comes to helping one another. More recently, another pageant friend, photographer Kathy Whittaker, was diagnosed with a different rare cancer, Leiomyosarcoma. And, striking especially close to home, one of my dearest second Moms and best friends, Shannon Rowland, is battling with her third recurrence of what is now Stage 4 breast cancer. There may not be much I can do, but supporting them in their battle and raising money for a cure are small ways I can make a difference.
HOW YOU CAN OTHERS GET INVOLVED?
I'm sure we each can think of someone who has been or is currently impacted by cancer. What is particularly great about the American Cancer Society is its ability to impact those with all different types of cancers. There are two big events that happen nationally with which you can get involved: the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in the fall and Relay for Life in the Spring. I personally participated in and fundraised for the Making Stides Against Breast Cancer walk this October in DC. I was able to fundraise over $1400, putting me in the Top 15 for individual fundraising. This Spring, I want to challenge you to join Team #UltimateImpact with a goal of collectively raising $15,000 for the ACS. Together, we can make a difference... join me in the fight for a cure!
